    $Taiwan Semiconductor(TSM.US)

Context: Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company and ASML announced a collaborative initiative to lead the semiconductor industry’s transition to a larger-format Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV) lithography photomask. While High NA EUV will be adopted for production using the current, 6-inch masks, the transition to larger, 12-inch masks is expected to further increase fab productivity, lower chipmaking costs and remove stitching constraints, benefiting the entire semiconductor industry. It will enable advanced chip manufacturers to fully leverage the advantages of High NA EUV, making future generations of leading-edge chips more cost-effective.

My Trade: Dollar cost averaging into one of the strongest stock in the Taiwan market. Collaboration with the Monopoly giant ASML further strengthens TSM's position in the sector.

Takeaway: TSMC intends to use ASML’s High NA technology in high-volume manufacturing for advanced nodes starting in 2030. As technology nodes advance, TSMC expects the number of layers requiring High NA EUV will rise, driven primarily by the increasingly complex transistor architectures required for AI applications. @Captain's Treasure

TSMC has sped up the pace of fab building 5x the historical pace and has 13 under construction in Taiwan and another 5 to 6 in progress overseas – nearly 20 in all, but still cannot meet demand, said Co-COO Cliff Hou, media report, naming construction workers as a key bottleneck. Also, TSMC’s demand for equipment has nearly doubled since the end of last year – a pace equipment suppliers cannot keep up with. $ASML(ASML.US) $Applied Materials(AMAT.US) $Taiwan Semiconductor(TSM.US) #semiconductors

Iggy's Journal: Frencken Falls 8% After a S$100 Million Placement

    28 August 2026, PM

    News:

Frencken (E28) fell as much as 8.3% on Friday after proposing a S$100 million share placement, Business Times reported (Shikhar Gupta, 28 August 2026). It opened as low as S$2.33, down S$0.21 from Tuesday's close of S$2.54. Trading was halted on Wednesday and Thursday.

The placement is 44.1 million new shares at S$2.2687, a 10% discount to the 25 August volume-weighted average price of S$2.5207, placed privately with institutional and accredited investors. That is about 10.3% of existing issued shares, and 9.3% of the enlarged base after completion. BT (Young Zhan Heng, 27 August 2026) said completion is expected on 3 September.

The company said the raise is to fund expansion in manufacturing, mechatronics, and advanced plastic solutions, and to leave room for strategic investments and M&A. After fees, about S$87.4 million (90%) is earmarked for that expansion and the balance sheet, and about S$9.7 million (10%) for working capital or bank-loan repayment. As at 30 June, Frencken had S$123 million in cash and S$53.2 million in borrowings. Mechatronics, including the semiconductor business, was 90.1% of first-half FY2026 revenue.

Year to date Frencken is still up 78.9% on the AI boom, BT said. Customers named include Applied Materials and ASML.

    Just Reporting:

This is a placement story, not a yield story. Frencken is not on the forensic ledger, so there is no zone line to restate. The 8% open is the market pricing a 10% discounted issue after a 78.9% year. On BT's own figures they already hold S$123 million of cash against S$53.2 million of borrowings, so this is not a cash-hole raise on those numbers. Whether the extra shares fund real capacity or just sit in front of the same earnings is a different question. AEM's year and UMS's year stay their own facts. They do not confirm anything about this name.

    Not financial advice.

    Cheers, Iggy 🦖

Taiwan’s ‘Big 5’ chip packaging and testing firms (OSATs) will spend over NT$460 billion (US$14.4B) this year on capex in a bid to catch up with AI-related demand, media report. Industry giant ASE said its biggest problem now is how to accelerate construction, equipment installation, and capacity rollout at 13 new projects and 8 renovations:

    ASE: NT$335 billion (US$10.5B)

    Powertech: NT$50 billion

    KYEC: NT$50 billion

$Carmax(KMX.US)#Trade Showcase: Trade, Show & Earn Rewards

    ### Trade Recap

My CarMax (KMX) position shows a 1.01% unrealized loss, with an entry cost of $58.235 and a current price of $57.500. The minor pullback moved in line with broad softness across consumer cyclical stocks, as traders reassessed the recovery pace of the US used-vehicle retail market. No company-specific negative news drove the dip; it largely reflects cautious near-term sentiment over auto loan rates and vehicle affordability. I kept the full position intact through the session, treating this mild retreat as normal trading noise rather than a trend break.

    ### Investment Insight

This small drawdown delivers a straightforward lesson: cyclical recoveries never advance in a straight line. Even when the long-term restructuring thesis stays solid, short-term sentiment shifts can easily produce 1–2% daily swings. Overtrading on such minor fluctuations only racks up transaction costs and eats into potential returns. For retail cyclical trades, patience pays off; real turning points show up in quarterly sales and margin data, not in single-day price moves.

    ### Risk Control Strategy

I cap KMX at 7% of my total portfolio to contain auto-cycle concentration risk. A 5% hard stop-loss from my cost basis is active to limit downside if the used-car market worsens further. I will not average down on small dips; extra capital will only be deployed if upcoming earnings reports confirm improving unit economics and stabilizing inventory conditions. While the market is focused on WFE, service revenue at the semicaps is accelerating faster. Combined service revenue across ASML, Lam, TEL and KLA grew 33% year on year in the June quarter against 20% for equipment. Service business is the real-time signal as its inflection is reflected in industry utilization rates ahead of equipment. Service business help logic/memory customers stay on top of yields and squeeze more wafer capacity, which is valuable in current situation.

Service business outgrew equipment at most semicaps and guided to grow anywhere between 12-17%. Long-term service targets now run from Lam's 10%+ and ASM's 12%+ up to KLA's 13-15% and AMAT's mid-teens, with the two most recent updates both revised upward.

Last but not least, service business funds dividends at major semicaps.
