    $SIA Engineering(S59.SG)

Context: SIA Engineering closed at S$3.10, with higher input costs, including rising shipping costs for materials, weighing on margins. The stock is also below the S$3.20 200-day EMA, so I’m watching for a breakout.

My trade: I’ll look to exit around S$3.30 on a rebound and redeploy the funds into blue chips.

Takeaway: I’m not optimistic on the near-term upside, so I’d rather redeploy into stronger blue-chip opportunities.

Iggy's Journal: Eight Big Announcements Last Night. Three Actually Touch My Ledger, And None Of Them Move A Zone.

    24 August 2026, PM

    Podcast Release:

Angela and I went through all eight National Day Rally announcements on today's episode, not to find a stock angle in everything, but to be honest about where one genuinely doesn't exist. Childcare leave, the child support package, the BTO income ceiling, teen social media rules, none of that touches anything I track, and we said so plainly rather than force it.

Three items do connect to names already in my coverage, the new western island and Tekong tunnel studies touch Keppel and ST Engineering, both already Zone 5. The autonomous vehicle push touches ComfortDelGro, already Zone 4 on a gearing failure. The US tariff conversation touches the banks in the background, all three unchanged.

    My Personal Take:

Not one of those three connections moved a single zone call today, and I said that on air because I think it's the actually useful thing to hear the morning after a big speech. A study, a decades-out land reclamation plan, a stated policy intention, none of that is a confirmed order book or a dividend change. My verdicts move on trailing distributions and confirmed balance sheet facts, not on how exciting an announcement sounds.

If any of these three names get something real and dated tied to last night's speech, I'll revisit it properly and tell you exactly what changed. Until then, the two investors from today's cold open both heard the same speech, only one of them is going to remember it was a statement of intent, not a stock tip.

Not financial advice. Iggy's Forensic Compliance Standards apply.

    $SIA Engineering(S59.SG)

Context: S$3.28 remains the key technical resistance, but the recent test was quickly rejected. The stock remains range-bound, and without a meaningful catalyst, a sustained breakout looks difficult.

My trade: I’ll take a wait-and-see approach for now, but I’m looking to exit and reposition as soon as the price reaches a level I’m comfortable with.

Takeaway: The lack of momentum doesn’t suit my investment style, especially when you see other SGX stocks seeing sharp increases across 2026.

$SIA Engineering(S59.SG)Context: SIA Engineering has picked up momentum over the past two days, which is encouraging after its recent underperformance. The key level now is S$3.28, around its 200-day moving average.

My trade: I’ll look to exit on a decisive breakout above S$3.28, using the recovery as an opportunity to reposition the capital elsewhere.

Takeaway: A stronger technical setup gives me a better exit point.

$SIA Engineering(S59.SG)SIA Engineering rose 1.6% today, but I’m still cautious given the technical picture. The stock remains below its 20-day (S$3.13), 50-day (S$3.21), 100-day (S$3.18) and 200-day (S$3.29) moving averages. With my entry at S$3.23, I’m inclined to wait for a recovery towards that level before exiting. Technically, the setup remains bearish, with the stock yet to reclaim its 200-day moving average, which continues to act as key resistance.

    $SIA(C6L.SG)

I was reading an article from Mothership about Singapore Airlines recording nearly S$945 million in share of losses from its Air India investment in less than two years after taking a 25% stake in November 2024.

It prompted me to look back at SIA’s long history of overseas airline investments. 🤔

SIA is world‑famous for its five‑star service however its has track record of investing in foreign carriers which tells a much tougher story: a string of write‑offs, dilution and total wipeouts.

On paper, buying minority stakes in other airlines looked like a smart way to gain market access without the full cost of outright ownership.

In practice, it turned into a costly lesson in value destruction. Across four major deals over two decades, the pattern was remarkably consistent:

    * 🇬🇧 Virgin Atlantic: Bought 49% for £600 million (~US$963M) in 1999; sold to Delta in 2012 for just US$360 million. Loss: ~S$1.1–1.2 billion (cash loss after write-downs).

    * 🇳🇿 Air New Zealand: Bought a 25% stake for NZ426 million (~S$360–370M) in 2000, which was heavily diluted following the 2001 collapse of Ansett Australia. Exited in 2004 for NZ61.7M (~S70.5M). Loss: ~S$360–370 million.

    * 🇦🇺 Virgin Australia: Built up a ~20% stake (totaling over A850M), which was wiped down to zero when the airline entered administration in 2020. **Loss: ~S500 million**.

    * 🇹🇭 NokScoot: The 49% joint venture was liquidated in 2020, wiping out ~S$40M+ in initial equity and triggering a S$123.6 million one‑off impairment charge.

Add up those past four deals alone: ~S$2.4billion invested and ~S$1.9 billion+ lost 💸.

And now, the Air India merger has added another ~S$945 million share of losses in FY2025/26.

The key lesson: SIA succeeds when it maintains operational control ,think Scoot or SIA Engineering. It tends to struggle when it holds passive minority stakes.

So the big question: will Air India finally break this long‑standing pattern?

$SIA Engineering(S59.SG)SIA Engineering has continued to underperform, with my position now down 4.17%. While the longer-term MRO outlook remains constructive, I think the upside may be limited after the recent recovery in earnings and flight activity. For now, I’m inclined to wait for the position to break even before exiting, and potentially redeploying the capital into opportunities with stronger growth momentum.

$SIA Engineering(S59.SG)SIA Engineering’s FY25/26 results give me more confidence in the recovery story, with revenue and profitability improving strongly on higher flight activity and pricing. Capacity expansion at SAESL and Malaysia, alongside the Safran LEAP JV and Air India MOU, should support longer-term growth. While returns remain modest, I’m inclined to hold and wait for these initiatives to translate into stronger earnings.

$SIA Engineering(S59.SG)I’m considering exiting my SIA Engineering position as the investment thesis has become less compelling. With aviation demand largely normalised, much of the recovery appears to be reflected in the share price, while upside catalysts look limited. I may reallocate the capital to semiconductor names, where the recent pullback presents a more attractive risk-reward opportunity.

A strategic partnership worth watching. SIA Engineering’s collaboration with Air India to explore Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) opportunities underscores the growing demand for aviation services as fleet expansion accelerates across Asia.

If this progresses into long-term contracts, it could strengthen SIA Engineering’s earnings visibility, expand its regional footprint, and reinforce its position as a leading MRO provider. A positive development that investors should keep on their radar.
