Driven by the surge in demand for AI chips from NVIDIA and Broadcom, as well as massive investments from Microsoft, Amazon, and Google, TSMC's revenue in 2024 increased by 33.9% year-on-year.
On January 10, TSMC's financial report showed that the company's revenue in December 2024 was approximately NT$278.163 billion, a month-on-month increase of 0.8% and a year-on-year increase of 57.8%. Full-year revenue for 2024 was approximately NT$2.894 trillion, a year-on-year increase of 33.9%.
It is reported that TSMC produces the majority of the world's AI computing chips for market leaders such as NVIDIA, Broadcom, AMD, Amazon, and Google. These companies also utilize TSMC's advanced chip packaging technology to integrate AI processors with high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips to improve performance. TSMC also serves most leading chip developers, including Apple, Qualcomm, and MediaTek.
TSMC will hold its Q4 2024 earnings call on January 16. Analysts believe there are four key areas to watch during the call. First is the progress and revenue of CoWoS advanced packaging capacity, which could provide insights into TSMC's expectations for AI chip demand over the next 12-18 months. Second is the progress of capacity expansion at the Arizona fab, which is critical to meeting the chip production needs of customers like Apple and NVIDIA in the U.S. Third is the potential profit pressure from weakening demand for mature process nodes (7nm and 16nm and above). Finally, the 2025 capital expenditure plan will reveal TSMC's confidence in the adoption of its next-generation 2nm process.
