The Dow closed at a record and the reason was not subtle. Crude fell 6% after Trump called off a planned strike on Iran, the inflation math got easier, and money piled into anything that could prove AI spending turns into actual revenue. Amazon became the fifth company ever worth $3 trillion. Then Palantir printed 93% revenue growth after the bell while still sitting 40% below its own high. The one group that did not participate: memory, which cooled 5% to 6% on the same day SanDisk and SK hynix published the first standard for the technology that is supposed to make NAND indispensable to AI. Let's dig in 👇
💬 Monday paid up for proven cloud earnings and sold the memory trade, so where does your next dollar go, into the AI names already printing cash, into the memory wreckage everyone just trimmed, or into SG banks ahead of DBS on Thursday?
📊 Quick Recap — What Moved & Why
🇺🇸 US — Record Close, And Palantir Broke The Meter After It
🔑 Key Event: Cheaper oil, proven AI earnings, and the tape took it. Dow +693.38 points (+1.32%) to a record 53,178.41, S&P 500 +1.48% to 7,600.50, Nasdaq +2.1% to 25,913.9, led by $Meta Platforms(META.US) +6%, $Microsoft(MSFT.US) +4.9%, $Alphabet(GOOGL.US) +4.9%, $NVIDIA(NVDA.US) +2.9%, $Tesla(TSLA.US) +3.5%. $Amazon(AMZN.US) closed +5.4% at $286.16 and became the fifth company ever worth $3 trillion, on AWS at $42.2 billion. Then Palantir landed after the bell: revenue +93% to $1.935 billion, US commercial +149% to $764 million, adjusted EPS $0.41 versus $0.34 expected, full-year guidance raised to $8.15 billion. Shares rose about 10% after hours and are still 31% down year to date, 40% off the high. Fundamentals accelerated all year while the multiple compressed all year. That gap is the whole debate.
👀 Other to Watch
- $Palantir Tech(PLTR.US), the rest of the print → GAAP net income $1.062 billion at a 55% net margin, US government revenue +90% to $809 million, US commercial guided above $3.424 billion for the year (+134%), adjusted free cash flow $4.5 to $4.7 billion. Growth and cash, which is what the premium has to be paid out of.
- US ISM manufacturing → 55.6 in July, up 2.3 points and the highest since May 2022. New orders 56.7, employment 52.8, its first expansion in 33 months.
- Memory ($Seagate Tech(STX.US) -6%, $Western Digital(WDC.US) -6%, $SK Hynix(SKHY.US) -5%, $Micron Tech(MU.US) -5%) → the one group that sat out a 2% Nasdaq day, which is what profit-taking looks like when Micron is still +188% and SanDisk +412% year to date. The fundamental news went the other way on the same day: SanDisk and SK hynix released the first High Bandwidth Flash technical specification through the Open Compute Project, covering up to 512GB per device, 8-high and 16-high NAND stacks, bandwidth grades from roughly 0.4TB/s to 3.0TB/s, and a UCIe chiplet link to CPUs and GPUs. Reported industry supply is sold out into 2027. Price action and roadmap are pointing in opposite directions this week, and SanDisk reports Friday morning SGT.
- $Coreweave(CRWV.US) +19.6%, $Nebius(NBIS.US) +14% → the neocloud trade snapped back one session after credit-spread and AI-financing jitters knocked it down. Nebius signed a compute agreement with Reflection AI worth over $1 billion through 2029, and Truist upgraded CoreWeave to Buy after a 42% drawdown. Hyperscaler capex guidance is now the read-through everyone is trading.
- $Snap(SNAP.US) → revenue +19% to $1.60 billion, adjusted EBITDA $250 million, free cash flow $121 million, daily actives +5% to 493 million, and the line that matters, non-advertising revenue +85% to $316 million as subscriptions scaled. Q3 guided to $1.70 to $1.74 billion. North American daily users are still down 7%, so this is a monetisation story, not a growth-reacceleration story.
- $ON Semiconductor(ON.US) → +5% after hours on EPS of $0.74 versus $0.71 expected and revenue of $1.6 billion, with Q3 guided to EPS of $0.81 to $0.93 on revenue up to $1.75 billion. The first credible sign that industrial and auto power demand has bottomed.
- $GameStop(GME.US) → about -12% after agreeing to exchange roughly $1.4 billion of convertible notes for common stock. Cleaner balance sheet, real dilution, and a 35-session pricing window for the market to argue about it.
@Heroic Lifesaver: "Microsoft delivered exactly what the market wanted to see: AI investments are translating into accelerating business performance rather than simply higher costs. As long as cloud demand and AI monetisation continue to outpace spending, the long-term uptrend remains intact despite the premium valuation."
🇸🇬 Singapore — Best PMI Since 2018, Quiet Tape, Loud Filings
🔑 Key Event: The macro beat the tape. July manufacturing PMI edged up to 51.4 from 51.3, a twelfth straight month of expansion and the highest since November 2018. The index stayed quiet: STI closed Monday at 5,612.28 (-0.29%), then traded near 5,626.66 intraday Tuesday (+0.26%). The filings did the work. $ParkwayLife Reit(C2PU.SG) released 1H2026 results before the open, with a cash distribution, a capital distribution and a private placement proceeds update. Read it against the base, not a guess: 1Q2026 DPU was 4.42 cents, up 15.1%, once the hospital rent review formula kicked in and a three-year rebate rolled off. $ESR-REIT(J91U.SG) got TOP at 29 Tai Seng Street and locked 100% committed occupancy ahead of schedule with PSB Academy as tenant.
👀 Other to Watch
- Temasek → priced a S$750 million Temasek Bond, a clean read on how the top of the SGD credit curve is being received right now.
- $Frasers L&C Tr(BUOU.SG) → paid the acquisition fee for its €294.9 million, about S$441.5 million four-asset German and Dutch logistics purchase by issuing units instead of cash, preserving the no-equity-raise structure of the deal.
- First Sponsor Group → filed a voluntary rights issue announcement late Monday. Terms are not independently confirmed yet, so size and pricing are worth reading off the original filing rather than a summary.
- $Koh Eco(5HV.SG) → filed a profit guidance announcement. The header does not state direction, so treat it as something to read tonight rather than a signal to trade.
- Riverstone Holdings → announced the retirement of an executive officer.
- $DBS(D05.SG) → reports 2Q and 1H on Thursday at roughly 18.6x P/E against an 11.78x historical average. Every SG income portfolio is effectively long that print.
@升烟: "Both of my core holdings pay dividends semi-annually. This round, I deliberately walked away from the banking dividends and pivoted into two much weaker performers instead. Rotating away from the booming banks wasn't easy, but staying defensive keeps me grounded."
🇭🇰 HK/China — Alibaba Carried It Back Over 26,000
🔑 Key Event:HSI +124 points (+0.48%) to 26,009, back over 26,000, with Hang Seng Tech +1% to 4,875 on HK$255.2 billion of turnover. Same imported relief trade as everywhere else, but the driver was single-stock: $BABA-W(09988.HK) closed +7.01% after detailing Qwen 3.8-Max during the session. Cloud, not e-commerce, is still what the sell side is trading here. Citi carries Buy at $192, Morgan Stanley Overweight at $180. Solar names ran over 10%.
👀 Other to Watch
- Mainland diverged → Shanghai Composite -0.6% to 3,809 and Shenzhen Component -1% to 13,448, so this was a Hong Kong tech bid rather than a China-wide risk-on.
- Unitree Robotics → STAR Market IPO book-building opens Wednesday, with public subscription on 10 August.
🌍 Other
- Crude reset hard. WTI -$5.07 (-6%) to $79.60, Brent -$4.23 (-4.8%) to $83.70, the steepest single-day drops since early last week, after Trump said he had called off a planned strike on Iran and that Iran had asked for time to negotiate reopening the Strait of Hormuz. That is Monday's entire inflation-relief leg in one headline, and the leg that reverses on one tanker incident.
- Tariffs are back in court.25 states sued on Monday in the US Court of International Trade, challenging the 23 July round of 10% to 12.5% tariffs on 80-plus countries. Third attempt, after February's Supreme Court ruling that IEEPA grants no such authority. The most direct legal risk to the current regime.
- Yen intervention confirmed. The US and Japan confirmed they began buying yen late last week, and the currency has recovered sharply over two sessions. Stronger yen, different funding math for a lot of crowded longs.
- Cocoa spiked. Ghana's regulator now projects 2026/27 output of 450,000 to 550,000 tonnes against 750,000 for 2025/26, on swollen shoot disease, ageing farms and weather. Supply story, not demand.
@Fattycat: "Gold eked out a +0.5% gain in July, its first positive month since February, but upside is limited as markets price a 65% chance of a hike in September. $3,970 to $4,000 is the critical floor. As long as this holds, gold stays in consolidation mode waiting for its next big move."
