    $Lion-OCBC Sec HSTECH S(HST.SG)

Context: Chinese and Hong Kong tech stocks tracked by the Hang Seng Tech Index have experienced sharp pullbacks, similar to the corrections across global technology equities. This sector pullback has compressed valuations down near 52 week lows, creating an opportunity for investors to DCA. Hang Seng Tech Index holds tech leaders in hardware, software, and e-commerce which are at attractive levels.

My trade: I initiated a new position in the Lion-OCBC Securities Hang Seng TECH ETF (HST.SG) during the recent market correction. I believe in diversification, therefore accumulating units at current levels gives me diversified exposure to top tier Asian tech giants and semiconductor leaders such as Tencent, Alibaba, Meituan, SMIC, Bidu, Xiaomi, BYD which are at attractive entry prices.

Takeaway: Buying high beta technology ETFs during macroeconomic and sector wide corrections offers a better reward to risk profile compared to chasing rallies at market peaks. However, one still needs to monitor for macroeconomic headwinds in China and the potential regulatory shifts that will impact Chinese tech companies.

$Apple(AAPL.US) is planning to launch Apple Intelligence in mainland China in December as part of the iOS 27.3 update, per Bloomberg

That ends a regulatory delay of about two years. The features first rolled out in the US with iOS 18.1 in October 2024

The China launch is set to include Genmoji, notification summaries, Writing Tools, and Clean Up in Photos

It will leave out the new Siri AI and other features announced this year, along with the company's in-house image generation tools. Some text generation features will also be limited

To get approved, $Apple(AAPL.US) built guardrails with $Alibaba(BABA.US), including a filter that lets the Chinese government approve ongoing updates to the AI models. It is also working with $Baidu(BIDU.US) on search and Siri features

Permits issued Sept 29 cleared recent iPhones to run Apple Intelligence with $Alibaba(BABA.US)'s Qwen and Tongyi Wanxiang models

Greater China revenue was $18.8B last quarter, up 22.4% from a year ago, and $Apple(AAPL.US) closed up about 0.5% on a red day for the market

Two year old features will not out-AI Huawei or Xiaomi on their home turf, but that was never really the bar. The missing AI checkbox has been a sales headwind in China, and it goes away right as the iPhone Duo launches there next week. Greater China is already tied with Europe as the fastest growing region, so the March quarter China number is where this either shows up or doesn't

The probability of rate hikes is indeed rising, but Trump's public comments have mixed effects. The greater momentum lies within the market itself. It seems Warsh is being clever: 'Don't look at me for whether it goes up or down; I'm not taking the blame for this.'

Obviously, there is still time until fed decision next week. The probability of a hike this meeting is still very much borderline. Inflationary pressure is real, but I'm still bullish. I think the rate hikes may not come until 2027. I'm optimistic we see some good news in the remaining of 2026 that could curb rate hikes possibilities. Just my opinion.

Memory chip stocks are going up again because of tighter HBM supply. Although the limited supply relative to demand is real, I have observed the stock market is often irrational and price movements can change direction suddenly for any reason. Sizing and risk management are important.

The US economy is powering on and now the markets must figure out if that is going to support them going forward. Inflation figures will be key.

Nice rotation going on. As markets try to read a strong labour market and its effects, capital flows back into sold down AI tech beneficiaries of power, memory and networking ilk.
