$UOB 5xLongSG261217(W9AW.SG)Context: UOB has pulled back from its recent high, so some of my earlier gains have come down, but the position is still comfortably in profit.

My trade: I’m still holding my UOB 5xLong position at a cost of 0.155. It is now trading at 0.225, leaving me up 45.16%. I decided not to sell during the recent pullback and will continue watching how UOB performs.

Takeaway: This reminds me that profits can disappear quickly with leverage. I’m still positive on the position, but protecting gains is something I need to consider more carefully. @Captain's Treasure

🥇 GOLD + 🥈 SILVER ⚔️ The Battle of the Metals — or the Dynamic Duo

🥇 GOLD — The Defensive Asset 🛡️

Gold has evolved from ancient currency and a store of wealth into a modern safe-haven asset. Today, its price is influenced by inflation, interest rates, central-bank buying and global uncertainty.

For traders, gold may offer a more defensive way to navigate periods of market uncertainty and protect against changing macro conditions.

🥈 SILVER — The Industrial Metal ⚙️

Silver has a different story. Beyond its historical role as money, it has become an increasingly important industrial metal, with demand supported by electronics, solar energy and emerging technologies.

That gives silver greater exposure to economic and industrial growth — but also means bigger price swings.

⚖️ Different strengths. Different risks.

🥇 Gold = Defensive 🛡️

Safe-haven appeal • Stability • Wealth preservation

🥈 Silver = Cyclical + Industrial ⚙️

Industrial demand • Growth potential • Higher volatility

And this difference is what makes the new Gold & Silver DLCs interesting for active traders. With long and short positions available, traders can position for either rising or falling prices based on their market outlook.

⚠️ But leverage cuts both ways.

DLCs can magnify gains, but losses can grow just as quickly. A clear strategy and disciplined risk management are essential.

🌍 With interest rates, inflation expectations and geopolitical uncertainty continuing to drive precious metals, perhaps the question isn’t simply Gold or Silver?

It could be 🥇 Gold + 🥈 Silver — the Dynamic Duo.

Gold for defense. Silver for industrial growth.

Different drivers, different characteristics but both are worth keeping on the radar as market conditions evolve 📊@Captain's Watch $GLD US 5xLongSG280609(GLDW.SG)$GLD US 5xShortSG280609(GOSW.SG)$SLV 3xLongSG280609(SLSW.SG)$SLV 3xShortSG280609(SVSW.SG)

📚 DLC Guide: Gold & Silver (SGX)

What are DLCs? Daily Leverage Certificates multiply the daily returns of US ETFs like GLD and SLV,no margin account needed.

Take an example gold and silver price as of 21 Aug noon.

🪙 Gold (XAU/USD ~$4,543)

Momentum is strong (RSI 64.8, near upper band). Don’t chase highs. Wait for a pullback to ~$4,525 (middle SMA) before entering a 5x Long GLD DLC.

🥈 Silver (XAG/USD ~$69.07)

High volatility — just broke out +1.46%. Use 3x Long SLV DLC, but set strict stop-losses and take profits fast. Silver can snap back quickly!

✅ Key Rules and important to keep in mind

1️⃣ Keep trades intraday or 1–2 days max avoid holding over weekend

2️⃣ Don’t hold long-term — value decays over time

3️⃣ Losses get amplified just like gains

4️⃣ Daily compounding erodes returns in choppy/sideways markets

5️⃣ SGX hours differ from US — watch overnight gaps

6️⃣ Good news: Your maximum loss is capped at what you put in

⚠️ For education only. High risk not for everyone. Seek advice if unsure. Always do your own risk management if you are qualified to trade 😊.

$UOB 5xShortSG261217(9XCW.SG)

$UOB 5xShortUB280731(9AQW.SG)

Quick recap on how these work: they're SocGen-issued Daily Leverage Certificates, so they give 5x the daily inverse move of UOB shares. That means they gain when UOB drops, but the compounding is daily — over any stretch longer than a day or two, the DLC's return can diverge quite a bit from "5x the actual UOB move" over that period, especially if UOB chops around instead of trending cleanly down. This is the single most important thing to flag to clients — it's not a buy-and-hold short, it's a tactical, short-horizon instrument.

On why some might be eyeing the short side now — banks like UOB are sensitive to NIM (net interest margin) compression if rates keep easing, and asset quality/loan growth commentary in recent results can also weigh on sentiment. If a client's thesis is "UOB's near-term performance looks soft," a 5x Short DLC is one way to express that view with defined capital outlay (max loss = premium paid) rather than shorting the stock directly. But it cuts both ways — any UOB rebound (dividend support, buybacks, results beat) gets amplified 5x against the position just as fast.

So the honest framing for clients: it's a leveraged, short-dated tactical tool for a specific bearish view on UOB, not a general "UOB not looking good, so short it" play. Worth pairing with a clear entry/exit discipline given the daily reset mechanic.

If you are considering Gold & Silver Daily Leverage Certificates (DLCs) on SGX, my main advice is to treat them as short-term trading instruments, not long-term investments because

1. DLCs reset their leverage daily. Because of daily compounding, holding a 5x DLC for several days does not necessarily produce 5 times the underlying's total return. SGX's own product documentation specifically warns that performance over periods longer than one day can differ substantially from the stated daily leverage. So please don't treat "5x" as 5x of the overall return

2. Gold and silver can move very quickly.Silver is generally more volatile than gold because it also has significant industrial demand.

Due to very large intraday price swings, this type of product are not suitable for inexperienced investors

3. If you are bullish on gold, for example, a Gold Long DLC makes sense only if your expectation is that gold will rise over the relevant short-term trading period. If gold moves against you, the leverage works against you just as quickly. For someone who isn't comfortable monitoring prices actively, a normal gold ETF is generally much easier to manage.

My overall view is that Gold/Silver DLCs can be useful tools when you have a strong short-term view and are comfortable with leverage. The attraction is obvious: you can obtain significant exposure without putting up the full amount required for the underlying.

But the biggest mistake would be to think "Gold is a long-term safe-haven asset, therefore a 5x Gold DLC is a good long-term investment.’

Gold itself can be suitable as a portfolio diversifier over the long term; a daily leveraged certificate is designed for short-term tactical exposure

If your objective is long-term exposure to gold/silver - consider an unleveraged ETF.

If your objective is short-term directional trading - DLCs can be considered, but use strict position sizing and an exit plan.

There's a common misconception that all DLCs trigger the airbag at a 20% adverse move in the underlying. That's incorrect.

20% is the theoretical wipeout level for a 5x DLC.

Formula: 100% / Leverage Factor = Wipeout Gap. For 5x, that's 20%.

Without an airbag, a 20% adverse move would bring a 5x DLC to zero. That's why the airbag trigger is set LOWER - to leave a buffer before zero.

Actual SGX Airbag Triggers [Adverse move in underlying]:

5x Index DLC: 10%

5x Single Stock DLC: 15%

3x Index DLC: 20%

The trigger only activates when the underlying moves AGAINST your DLC direction. E.g. underlying falls for a Long DLC, rises for a Short DLC.

How the Airbag Actually Works:

When the trigger is hit:

1. Suspension: Issuer requests SGX to suspend trading of the DLC for ∼30 mins. This consists of 15-min Observation Period + 15-min Reset Period + exchange approval time.

2. New Observed Level (NOL): During the 15-min Observation Period, the system captures the WORST level of the underlying.

• For Long DLC = Lowest price in that window • For Short DLC = Highest price in that window

3. Reset & Resume: After trading resumes, all future performance is calculated based on the NOL, not the previous close. Your exposure is reduced, which also means it significantly reduces your ability to recoup losses even if the underlying bounces back.

Critical Risk to Understand:

The airbag SLOWS the loss, it does NOT guarantee you won't go to zero.

If the underlying moves another 20% against you during the Observation Period itself (for a 5x DLC), the DLC can still go to zero. This can also happen on an overnight gap.

For example, for a 5x Long DLC, the DLC would lose its entire value should the underlying fall by 20% or more overnight or within the 15-min Observation Period.

Trade with risk management. DLCs are designed for short-term tactical trading.

🥇✨ Gold & Silver DLCs: Opportunity, but discipline matters! 📈💰

Gold and silver have always interested me because they are influenced by a fascinating mix of interest rates, inflation, the US dollar, economic growth and geopolitical uncertainty. 🌍🏦 When markets become volatile, gold often benefits from safe-haven demand, while silver has an additional dimension because of its significant industrial applications, including electronics and renewable energy. ⚡🔋

This is what makes Gold & Silver DLCs particularly interesting. They offer leveraged exposure to the price movements of the underlying commodities, potentially amplifying returns when the market moves in the right direction. 🚀 However, leverage is a double-edged sword — the same amplification that creates opportunity can also magnify losses when the market moves against you. ⚠️📉

One thing I’ve learnt from trading DLCs is that having a market view is only half the equation; managing risk is just as important. Instead of chasing a strong price movement, I think it is important to understand why gold or silver is moving and whether the underlying catalyst is likely to continue. Changes in US monetary policy, interest-rate expectations and geopolitical developments can all quickly influence precious-metal prices. 🔍📊

I also believe position sizing and timing are crucial. 🎯 A trade with moderate leverage and a well-defined exit strategy may be more sustainable than aggressively chasing short-term gains. The objective isn’t to predict every market movement, but to have a clear trading thesis, understand the downside and remain disciplined when the market doesn’t behave as expected.

🥇 Gold: attractive for its safe-haven characteristics.

🥈 Silver: interesting for its precious-metal + industrial demand.

⚡ DLCs: provide amplified exposure, but require greater attention to risk management.

💬 Which do you prefer — Gold or Silver DLCs? And what indicators do you watch before making a trade? 👀📊

Y

Gold and silver are becoming increasingly interesting as strategic commodities. Central banks continue to accumulate gold as they diversify their reserves, while both metals can also provide some diversification given their relatively low correlation with the S&P 500.

I think the near-term outlook could be more challenging with rates staying higher for longer, but I’m still bullish on the longer-term story. Silver especially has strong structural demand from solar, electronics and the broader push towards electrification.

That’s also where I see the appeal of DLCs. With metals capable of making big moves in either direction, the Long and Short DLCs provide a way to take a more tactical view on gold or silver. The daily reset means they’re better suited for short-term trades rather than simply holding them for the long run.

Do you know that gold and silver are almost perfect market partners? 🪙

They share a remarkably strong positive correlation.

It means that their prices nearly always move in the same direction. Over the past month, the pattern is unmistakable.

💎 When gold climbs, silver rises alongside it;

💎 When gold pulls back, silver slides too.

The size of their daily gains or losses can differ but the direction is almost identical.

Both metals are influenced by the same key global economic drivers, including:

* The value of the U.S. dollar.

* Real interest rates.

* Inflation expectations.

* Global demand for safe-haven assets.

Their technical charts also tell a matching story, with both currently flashing “warning” signals and several indicators sitting in overbought territory which suggests prices may be due for a short‑term pause.

One interesting fact: it currently takes about 67.6 ounces of silver to buy one ounce of gold.

This gold‑silver ratio shifts over time

❤️ if it rises, gold is outperforming;

❤️ if it falls, silver is taking the lead.

Understanding this relationship can give you valuable insight whether you are trading gold, silver or both ☺️

Been bullish on gold since Mar/26. I got caught near the peak buying GLD and GLDM back in May—literally rode the elevator all the way down! But I stuck to my conviction, patiently averaged down on the dips, and held tight. Sure enough, August 5th delivered a strong trend reversal, and my positions are finally back in the green! 🎉 Right now, gold makes up about 10–20% of my portfolio. My plan simple: buy low, sell high using technicals.

1. Why Gold

De-dollarization: The structural decline of USD dominance is a multi-year shift. The move toward a multipolar global economy is already happening.Central Bank Buying: Global central banks keep stacking gold, creating a rock-solid price floor. Waiting for Hot Money: Fundamentals are driving this rally for now, but once speculative capital jumps in, it’ll throw gasoline on the fire—just like last year’s massive run!

2. Why Swing Trading

Manageable Volatility: Silver swings way too wild. High volatility sounds fun until it capsizes your account. Real compounding comes from steady gains × time. Gold’s moderate swings let me sleep soundly at night.

Pure Technicals: Gold doesn't have "major shareholders" or insider dumping. No corporate drama. That means indicators like MACD, RSI, and trendlines stay clean and actually work well for timing entries on the right side of the chart.

3. My Take on SGX Gold & Silver DLCs

The Good 👍: Direct SGD settlement. You don't lose money on USD/SGD currency conversions.

The Caution ⚠️: 5x daily leverage is a double-edged sword. The daily reset mechanism means sideways. If you don't have time to screen-watch all day, tread carefully!

My core holdings are still in long-term spot ETFs. I’ve added SGX Gold DLCs to my watchlist. If MACD shows an extreme oversold signal or a clean breakout, I might take a small, tactical bite with 5x Long DLCs to boost returns (though I'm much more hesitant to short).

Since going long on gold in March 2026, my journey of bottom-fishing has not been smooth sailing. I experienced deep "bagholding" when buying GLD and GLDM at the top in May, but I always believed in the major trend. Through steadfast dollar-cost averaging at lower levels and patient waiting, I finally welcomed a structural trend rebound on August 5!

My current positions have turned fully profitable, maintaining a gold allocation of 10%~20%. I strictly execute a "buy low and sell high based on technical analysis" strategy. Today, combining the highly discussed new Singapore Exchange (SGX) Gold/Silver DLC (Daily Leveraged Certificate) on Longbridge, let's dive deep into my underlying logic.

1. Why be bullish on gold for the long term?

Structural weakening of US dollar credit: This is a fundamental mega-trend spanning years to decades. The shift in the global financial order from unipolarity to multipolarity is an irreversible fact.

Unconscious "bottom-position buying" by central banks: The continuous structural accumulation by global central banks forms the most solid stepping stone for the gold price floor.

Awaiting the "east wind" from hot money: Central banks set the stage, while hot money performs. The current rise is primarily driven by fundamentals. Once international hot money gathers strength to enter and "add fuel to the fire," it could easily replicate the raging bull market of last year.

2. Why is gold suitable for swing trading?

When choosing between precious metals, I personally prefer gold over silver for two reasons:

Control volatility, pursue compound interest: Silver has high elasticity, but high volatility is not a catalyst for most people; it is a risk. "Water can carry a boat, but it can also capsize it." The essence of investment compounding is stable profit × time. Gold's moderate volatility allows for more peaceful sleep.

No major shareholders, purely speaking through technicals: As one of the world's largest commodity benchmarks, gold has no single institution or hot money capable of manipulating it long-term. It lacks the tricks of "major shareholder reductions," making technical indicators like MACD, RSI, and trendlines exceptionally clean and effective on gold charts, making it highly suitable for right-side timing and swing buying.

3. Views on Gold/Silver DLC (Leveraged Derivatives)

To be honest, I hadn't paid much attention to DLCs before, but the new Gold and Silver DLCs launched by the Singapore Exchange (SGX) have indeed caught my eye:

Advantage: Settlement directly in Singapore Dollars (SGD), with no exchange rate loss.

⚠️ Risk: 5x intraday leverage, clearly a double-edged sword. The 5x leverage amplifies both returns and volatility risks. Coupled with the DLC's daily reset mechanism, stubbornly holding positions in a volatile market can easily lead to decay. This requires the energy to watch the markets all day.

My core positions remain focused on long-term spot/ETF holdings. However, I will add the SGX Gold DLC to my watchlist. When MACD gives excellent overbought/oversold signals, or when betting on short-term breakouts, I will use a small portion of light position to play with 5x leveraged longs. I will be even more cautious about shorts, as this might serve as a very efficient supplement for yield enhancement.

The market never lacks opportunities. Only by controlling risk and maintaining moderate position sizes can one go far in this market!

What instruments are you using for gold? Would you try using DLC for short-term hedging or leveraging returns? Welcome to discuss in the comments!

My view on gold and silver:

Why 30% in Gold & Silver Is My Non-Negotiable Rule 🥇🥈

In a world of rate cuts, geopolitical uncertainty and rising fiscal risks, I don’t want my entire portfolio depending on equities.

For me, gold and silver are my portfolio lifeboat—not for chasing quick gains, but for resilience.

🥇🥈 Why 30%?

My personal allocation:

20% Gold + 10% Silver = 30%

• Gold → my defensive core and portfolio diversifier

• Silver → higher volatility, but with additional industrial demand from solar, electronics and electrification

Silver's industrial demand reached a record 680.5 million ounces in 2024, highlighting its unique growth component.

I don't believe 30% is a magic number for everyone. It is simply the level that fits my risk tolerance and investment objectives.

⚡ Where do DLCs fit?

I see DLCs as a tactical satellite, not a core holding.

Leverage can magnify both gains and losses, so position sizing and risk management are essential.

My approach is simple:

Hold → Rebalance → Take profits on spikes → Add selectively on dips.

I’m not trying to predict the next crisis or the next rally.

I’m trying to make sure my portfolio can survive different market scenarios.

What’s your ideal gold & silver allocation—5%, 10%, 20%, 30% or more? And do you use DLCs for long-term exposure or tactical trades? 👇

I am already in my 60s, and for most of my life, investing to me meant putting money into fixed deposits, shares and occasionally buying some physical gold. I never really understood why people were constantly watching charts and talking about leverage. Recently, my son introduced me to Gold DLCs on SGX. At first, I thought it was just another way to invest in gold. He explained that I could take a view on whether gold would rise or fall, but the leverage also meant that a relatively small movement in gold could have a much bigger impact on my position. I decided to try it with a small amount, mainly to understand how it worked. When gold moved in the direction I expected, I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly the position responded. But later, when gold moved against me, I realised that the same leverage worked both ways. I had spent decades learning how to protect my savings, and suddenly I was watching my money move much faster than I was used to. That experience changed the way I looked at trading. At this stage of my life, I don't want to take unnecessary risks simply because something offers the possibility of higher returns. I still believe there are opportunities in the market, including gold and silver, but I now understand that the most important question is not just “How much can I make?” It is also “How much can I afford to lose?” For me, that is something worth learning before putting any money into a new investment.

Trading SGX DLCs humbled me real quick.

Thought: "5x Long = easy money"

Reality: daily reset, compounding, airbag can wipe you to zero 😅

What I learned after a few months trading HSI and US indices DLCs:

Long is not always strong. Short is not always wrong.

DLCs are for DAYS, not months.

If you don't have a stop loss, the market will give you one.

I now only use DLCs when:

1. Trend is super clear 2. I can watch the market 3. Position size is small

It's a scalpel, not a sledgehammer.

Still learning. If you're trading DLCs too, let's share notes 👇

Not financial advice.

L

When I started, I thought DLC = just leveraged stocks. It's not.

DLCs from SocGen on SGX are a daily product. 3x, 5x, 7x Long/Short on HSI, S&P, NASDAQ, SG stocks. It resets every day. That one detail changes everything.

My experience in 3 lessons:

1. Leverage is a tool, not a lottery ticket.

A 5x Long doesn't mean you make 5x if HSI goes up 10% over a week. Because of daily compounding, holding for multiple days can drift hard against you, especially in choppy markets. I learned to treat DLCs as intraday to 2-3 day tactical trades, not investments.

2. The Airbag is NOT a safety net.

The Airbag Mechanism slows losses when the underlying moves sharply against you (e.g. 20%+ for a 5x). But it doesn't guarantee you won't lose everything. I saw a 5x Short SIA DLC go to zero when the airbag was triggered. If it triggers, your DLC can be suspended and delisted the next day. Respect it.

3. Trend + Discipline > Prediction

My best trades were not when I tried to catch reversals. They were when I rode a clear trend - e.g. 3x Short HSI during downtrend, small size, strict cut loss. My worst trades were overnight holds hoping for a gap up. The overnight decay is real.

If you're curious:

• Start on dlc.socgen.com simulator first • Never risk more than 1-2% of capital per trade • Have an exit plan BEFORE you enter

DLCs are powerful for hedging and short-term views, but they are high-risk and not for everyone. You can lose your full investment.

Not financial advice. Just sharing my journey.

Experts, please give some advice 😄

The recent gold and silver market trends are getting me excited, and I just came across this new DLC. Honestly, I'm both looking forward to and a bit nervous about the leveraged options. Can any experienced traders guide us? Do you think gold and silver will continue to surge or should they pull back this time? Also, grabbing onto this event, 20 SGD cash is quite tempting.

🥇 My Gold DLC Trade (X5)

Recently I bought a Gold Daily Leverage Certificate (DLC) and closed the trade within the same day using the 5x leverage. I entered because gold showed short-term strength and momentum. DLCs magnify daily price movements, so a small move in gold can create a much larger gain or loss. I chose to take profit quickly instead of holding overnight because DLCs reset daily and can be volatile. This trade reminded me that leverage is powerful but risky. My focus is always on having a clear plan, managing risk carefully, and protecting capital before chasing returns.

Gold continues to benefit from strong demand, with central banks increasingly building strategic reserves. Poland (31 tonnes) and Uzbekistan (25 tonnes) were among the largest buyers in Q1 2026, while China, Kazakhstan, and the Czech Republic have also added significant amounts of gold to their strategic reserves. This provides an important structural source of demand that can partially offset weaker jewellery consumption.

In India, the world’s second-largest jewellery market, gold jewellery demand fell 19% YoY to 66.1 tonnes in Q1 2026 as record prices reduced fine-weight purchases (World Gold Council).

Gold’s near-term direction remains closely tied to USD and interest rates. As a non-yielding asset, gold becomes relatively less attractive when Treasury yields rise due to higher opportunity cost of holding gold. A stronger USD also tends to weigh on the gold market, as it gets more expensive to purchase gold which is priced in USD. However, recent softer U.S. inflation and labour-market data have reduced expectations for a near-term Fed tightening, helping gold rebound. Gold has since recovered above $4,300/oz, suggesting that the $4,000 level could provide meaningful technical support.

Silver offers a higher-beta way to express the precious metals view. Unlike gold, silver has significant industrial demand, particularly from solar photovoltaics, electronics, automotive applications, and electrification. The long-term growth of these industries should support consumption, while the market is expected to remain in structural deficit for a sixth consecutive year in 2026 (46.3 million oz).

Overall, gold is likely the more defensive play, supported by central bank accumulation and its role as a hedge against currency, inflation, and geopolitical risk. Silver should benefit if gold continues higher, but its smaller market and industrial exposure can amplify both upside and downside. With silver at $65/oz, the $55/oz area likely remains a key support level.

An elderly investor in his 70s told me that he had always preferred simple investments. He grew up with the mindset that if you bought something valuable like gold, you simply held it and waited. So when he first heard about Gold DLCs on SGX, he was curious about why someone would trade gold with leverage. After speaking to a younger investor, he decided to learn more instead of immediately putting in a large amount. He started with a small position and quickly realised that a DLC behaves very differently from simply owning physical gold. When the gold price moved in his favour, the leveraged position responded quickly. But when the market turned, the losses also appeared much faster than he was comfortable with. He eventually closed the position and told me, “At my age, I don't need to make money quickly. I need to understand how quickly I can lose it.” That became his biggest lesson from the experience. For older investors who are more familiar with traditional investments, products such as DLCs can offer new opportunities, but they also come with risks that may not be familiar to them. Understanding the product, the leverage and the potential downside is therefore just as important as having a view on where gold or silver is heading.
