I’m watching the US-Canada tariff escalation closely. A 50% tariff on another US$20B of Canadian goods, with Ottawa threatening dollar-for-dollar retaliation, could add fresh inflation and growth concerns if Tuesday’s deadline passes without a deal. For now, it still feels partly like tariff theater, but the risk of a broader trade war is becoming harder to ignore.

On the other hand, Bitcoin breaking above US$75,000 after its strongest week in years is definitely catching my attention. I’m also keeping an eye on gold, oil and AI names this week, especially with Nvidia earnings and Jackson Hole ahead. For me, the key is staying selective and managing risk rather than chasing every headline.

I initiated a long position in NVIDIA by accumulating shares during the recent pullback toward the $205–$215 support zone. This swing trade utilizes a defined risk approach, targeting a rebound toward previous resistance near $235 while keeping a strict stop-loss below $195 to protect capital against potential post-earnings volatility.

Context: Trump again thought that he will strangle Iran by imposing what he dubbed as mother of all economic sanction. Before the Iran, Iran's GDP was at $475.25 billion in 2024 then fell to $420–$460 in 2025. Inflation was high at 40-50%, it was during early 2026 that mass protests begin to erupt and caused 30+k civilians killed by Iran authorities. It was after this that Trump attacked Iran thinking that after killing it's top leaders, the civilians will take this opportunities to force a regime change. It did did not happen. There might be dissidents but it were not enough to take down Iran government and neither will the mother of all economic sanction force Iranian to topple their government.

My trade: maintain, wait and see

Takeaway: Economic sanction is nothing to Iranian who are willing to sacrifice themselves for the country and their belief.

NVIDIA reports earnings next week, and it’s the event I’m watching most closely.

As an NVDA shareholder, I’m less focused on guessing the post earnings price move and more interested in whether the results and outlook can continue to support the market’s high expectations.

With the VIX around 15, sentiment is relatively optimistic, while the 10 year Treasury yield remains elevated. These factors don’t directly affect NVIDIA’s earnings, but they could influence how the market reacts. With expectations already high, good earnings don’t necessarily mean the stock will go up.

My trade:

I’m not adding or trimming my NVDA position ahead of earnings. I’m simply continuing to hold.

I’m more focused on whether AI demand remains strong and whether management’s outlook for the coming quarters changes. For now, I’ll maintain my position and reassess after earnings.

Takeaway:

Holding is also a decision. For me, this earnings report isn’t about predicting the short term price move. It’s about seeing whether the reasons I originally chose to hold NVDA have changed.

$Tesla(TSLA.US) remains the worst YTD performer (-20%) of all Mag 8 stocks, with only $Meta Platforms(META.US) (-15% YTD) which is facing an existential threat to its core business given a $1.4 trillion consumer liability trial that got underway this week also in the red. NDX overall is up +16% YTD, fueled by $NVIDIA(NVDA.US) (+16%), $Apple(AAPL.US) (+15%.), and $Amazon(AMZN.US) (+12%). TSLA’s troubles are due to lower than expected auto gross margins in its core EV business and a slower than expected scale up of its unsupervised autonomy efforts due to efficacy and safety concerns/an abundance of caution.

I'm closely watching NVIDIA's earnings, but I have to admit I reduced my position slightly first. The reason is that it already rebounded in August, and by month-end I was a bit afraid of a pullback. In fact, the pullback has already started; it's just a matter of how long the market will give back.
