Stripe + Advent is taking advantage of PayPal's fallen market value to attempt an acquisition of a direct relationship with consumer which they current lacked (being in B2B). Doing this could boost profit margin as they could route transactions internally through strip and PayPal and bypass Visa and MasterCard, this saving fees.

PayPal: Value Opportunity or Merger-Driven Rally?
PayPal has returned to the spotlight after Stripe and Advent International submitted a US$53 billion acquisition proposal at US$60.50 per share, representing a 28% premium. The bid highlights the strategic value of PayPal’s 430+ million consumer accounts, Venmo ecosystem and global merchant network, despite an increasingly saturated digital payments industry. However, PayPal’s board reportedly considers the offer inadequate, suggesting further negotiations or competing bids may emerge. (Reuters)
Fundamentally, PayPal remains a highly cash-generative fintech trading well below its 2021 peak. While competition from Stripe, Apple Pay and Google Pay continues to pressure growth, the company still possesses valuable payment infrastructure and brand recognition. A successful turnaround would likely depend on improving margins, accelerating Venmo monetisation and strengthening merchant services.
For investors, this appears more like a special-situation investment than a pure growth story. Option sellers may find better risk-adjusted opportunities by selling cash-secured puts near major technical support levels to potentially acquire shares at lower prices while collecting premium. Chasing elevated implied volatility after takeover headlines may offer less favourable risk-reward. Long-term investors should focus on fundamentals rather than merger speculation.

Analyst sees PayPal at a strategic crossroads with hidden value, but expects it will take until 2027-2028 for fundamentals to genuinely improve.PayPal - the typical undervalued falling knife that one should avoid. As a long term investor myself, I haven't touched the stock since $60-$80 range and I'm glad to have exited my position long ago. Yes it is an undervalued stock with a reasonable p/e ratio. However, PayPal's earnings have been incredibly unstable, with declining revenue growth and margin pressures being the main reasons behind its drop off. Despite the reported takeover, I still think this could be a value trap until I finally start seeing solid fundamentals in its earnings report and a growth direction set by the company or whoever that eventually buys over.

Good news for PayPal to have a buy. If want to make it private, unsure whether it is a good news.
Hope the AI hardware can improve.

Visa remains one of the world’s highest-quality compounders. In its latest fiscal Q2 2026 results, revenue rose 17% year-on-year to US$11.2 billion, GAAP net income increased 32% to US$6.0 billion, while EPS climbed 36% to US$3.14. Payments volume reached US$3.7 trillion (+9%), processed transactions rose 9% to 66.1 billion, and cross-border volume grew 12%, highlighting resilient global consumer spending. Visa also returned US$9.2 billion to shareholders through dividends and buybacks, including a new US$20 billion repurchase authorization. (SEC)
From a technical perspective, Visa continues to trade within a long-term bullish trend, consistently making higher highs and higher lows. Any pullback towards key moving averages may provide long-term accumulation opportunities.
Looking ahead, Visa’s next growth drivers extend beyond traditional card payments into AI-powered fraud prevention, commercial payments, real-time money movement, tokenisation, embedded finance, stablecoin settlement and agentic commerce. While fintechs such as Stripe, Block and PayPal, alongside real-time payment networks, are intensifying competition, Visa’s global acceptance network, trusted brand, decades of fraud data and powerful network effects remain formidable competitive moats. For long-term investors seeking durable earnings growth, robust free cash flow and disciplined capital returns, Visa continues to deserve its premium valuation. (tikr.com)
