$SOXL just crashed 20.5% in a single day, one week after traders poured a record $3.8 billion into it

The 3x leveraged semiconductor ETF closed at $82.11 today, its worst day since June 23, per Yahoo Finance data

The record weekly inflow came during the week of Oct 16, as buyers piled in while the fund was already falling, per Seeking Alpha

$SOXL is now down about 73% from its June 22 high of $300.77

Chips led the whole selloff. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index fell 6.7%, $AMD(AMD.US) dropped 8.1%, $Micron Tech(MU.US) 6.3% and $NVIDIA(NVDA.US) 4.4%

The Nasdaq 100 lost 2.9% for its worst day since June 23, while the Dow finished slightly green and $Apple(AAPL.US) closed at a record high

Leverage cuts both ways. Getting back to the June high would now take a 266% gain, and anyone who bought the dip last week with 3x exposure is already deep underwater

$Apple(AAPL.US)

Context: For being late to join the AI bandwagon, Apple actually saves itself from the recent AI stock rout since it has not spent too much on AI build up. However it sales for Iphone 18 dropped, it China you no longer need to wait to get a Iphone Pro or Pro Max compared to last year where you need to wait 6 to 25 days for Iphone 17 Pro and Pro Max at that time. But Iphone Duo is saving Apple and the wait time in China is now 90 days.

My trade: neutral on Apple stock

Takeaway: sometimes being late is better than being early. But while Apple can count its blessings, the AI world will still punish Apple if it can't catch up. Apple is chasing hard, they are partnering with Google, Meta and Openai, let sit back and watch. $NVIDIA(NVDA.US)$Intel(INTC.US)$Netflix(NFLX.US)

$Intel(INTC.US)INTC has fallen all the way back to where this rally started. I’m still hoping to get another entry around 60, but I’m also considering redirecting my regular Microsoft DCA into Intel instead.

The hardware correction probably isn’t over yet, but software hasn’t offered many exciting opportunities either. With AI spending still concentrated in infrastructure, Intel’s turnaround story is becoming more interesting to watch as the stock gives back its recent gains.

I’m not ready to chase the dip blindly, but I may start shifting my accumulation toward names where expectations have already come down. The challenge is figuring out whether this is a genuine opportunity or just the beginning of another leg lower.

JPMorgan ending a four-year underweight on Intel is a real signal, even if they only went to neutral. The foundry losses are still huge and they are still bleeding share to AMD, but if 18A ramps and external customers finally show up, the setup changes. I am not chasing the pop, I want to see the 29th before I add anything.

K

What the JPMorgan flip actually means for Intel

The bear-to-neutral move from JPMorgan matters less for the rating itself and more for what it signals: even the skeptics are done pressing the short case into earnings. Intel is not fixed, foundry still loses money and 18A has to prove it can win outside customers, not just internal volume. But the cheaper-AI Crescent Island angle gives it a story it did not have a year ago, and the risk-reward into the 29th looks more balanced than the tape suggests. I am keeping a small starter and will size up only if gross margin and foundry losses actually inflect. This is a show-me quarter, not a hero trade.

$Intel(INTC.US)

Context: intel is facing downward pressure again. In the past month, the shares have dropped ~17%. All is not well with its foundry business. Rumor has it that the agreement with Tesla to build Terafab is unravelling and Tesla is considering TSMC as a partner instead. TSMC is also ready to absorb any customer from Intel if Intel can't deliver its own advanced packaging called, EMIB-T. Intel foundry is persistently making losses.

My trade: reduce Intel stock in my portfolio

Takeaway: All eyes on Oct 29th to see Q3 earnings result whether it can reverse this bearish trend. Lip Bu Tan, please buck up! $NVIDIA(NVDA.US)$Netflix(NFLX.US)

📌🇺🇸 Apparently when I looked at last session’s screen, it is like a call for buyers market, especially those whom have missed the stocks such as INTC, SPCX, SKHY and so many more. But for me, I am holding on those stocks which may be dipping, for long term.

Next to add, is that when those stock prices which have already been all time high are more than not, to be likely to be adversely affected at this fragile period. Next, will be expecting a price re-correction along with buyers sentiment. IF there is no better time than now, then it may be the time!

Besides, CXMT’s DRAM progress already shown 2 days of adversely dragged down the 3 biggest key players. As such, the market is awaiting for Anthropic pre-IPO to gauge any good sign for a more balancing trend for now.

Period!

$Microsoft(MSFT.US)

Context: Nvidia is partnering with Microsoft to beat Apple in high end notebook space. Instead of GPU, Nvidia is building a CPU that directly competes with Intel and AMD. Microsoft claims that the Nvidia CPU that is installed in Microsoft branded laptops called$NVIDIA(NVDA.US)$Intel(INTC.US)$Netflix(NFLX.US) Surface Ultra can run twice as fast as Apple Macbook Pro M5 yet still cheaper by US$400. The Ultra cost US$2599.

My trade: Microsoft Surface laptop is only contributing to 2% of Microsoft revenue so I am neutral on it's stock price

Takeaway: Microsoft should consider competing with Apple Macbook Neo which recently was hiked to US$699. They should consider making AI notebooks affordable to the masses. The Ultra pricing is out of reach for many people especially the students.

Not many actions in the short term as macro it is not good and micro can be manipulated with posts from news or lawsuits that might come from software or semiconductor sectors in relation to AI. So DCA slowly into both IGV Mags if you believe software stocks will win and betting on soxx for the semiconductor sector with AI factors aiding growth to the companies.

Markets movements will be clearer as we come to the end of the month. Unsure if it is directional bearish or bullish but if the macro problems are persistent I do not think we will have big rallies but might have sudden drop. DCA slowly into stocks to participate in the market and chill over the weekends.

Chip Controls, a Boeing Deal, and a Taiwan Arms Sale All Converge on One Meeting. Here's the Singapore Read.

22 September 2026, Afternoon

Podcast

Everyone's watching whether Trump and Xi get along on September 24. I'm watching a different question. What happens to the equipment makers sitting underneath the chips, if nobody in that room even mentions them.

The Numbers

Export controls have been the sticking point through every round of talks this year, and the base case going in is that nothing changes on that front. That's the boring, correct expectation, not a surprise. AEM Holdings isn't on any export control list, but it posted 1H2026 revenue up 30 percent year on year to S$247.2 million on AI and high performance computing demand, the kind of order book that moves when the rules shift for its customers. UMS Holdings, also outside the control list but in the same equipment chain, grew 1Q2026 revenue 20 percent year on year to S$69.4 million with net profit up 43 percent to S$14 million. ST Engineering sits adjacent to the separate Boeing story through its Commercial Aerospace segment, which posted H1 2026 revenue of S$2.69 billion, up 15 percent, on higher engine MRO.

My Personal Take

I don't think this meeting changes anything on Thursday, and that's exactly why it's worth naming the names before the meeting happens rather than after. AEM and UMS don't show up on any sanctions list, but they live in the supply chain underneath one, and that's a different kind of exposure than most people are looking for when they check whether their portfolio has "chip stocks" in it. ST Engineering is a slower, steadier story running on a completely different clock, tied to how many planes are flying, not to what gets said in one room on one day. Nothing here says reposition before Thursday.

Meta’s Muse agent ranking highly on the U.S. App Store highlights growing consumer interest in AI-agent applications and supports expectations for greater compute demand. The simultaneous gains in Meta, Intel, AMD and Arm suggest investors are linking AI-agent adoption with broader CPU and semiconductor requirements. AMD’s market capitalization surpassing $1 trillion further reflects strong market expectations for its AI and data-center opportunities. However, the sharp one-day moves also indicate elevated expectations and sensitivity to future AI spending, product adoption and semiconductor demand.

$Intel(INTC.US)

context: There are rumor that Sk Hynix going to setup a manufacturing facility in US. Though this will definitely please Trump who is expecting Seoul to fulfill it US$350 billion pledge to invest in US but this does not sit well with the Koreans who view this as selling their country secret in producing High Bandwidth Memory to US. Currently Sk Hynix controls 50% of HBM global production and the US is not a cheap place to set up a manufacturing plant. A good example is TSMC who set up a plant in Arizona just to encounter not just cost overrun from US$12 billion to US$20 billion but also a clashing work culture where the US is more laid back compared to Asians. TSMC estimated that the cost of manufacturing in the US is 2x more expensive than in Taiwan.

My trade: I am still keeping my finger crossed that this deal can go through and Intel is still a good buy

Takeaway: Seoul will need to keep a balance between following the people wish or pleasing Trump in hope of lower US trade tariff.$NVIDIA(NVDA.US)$Netflix(NFLX.US)

🌍 Trump–Xi Meeting: Who Wins, Who Loses? Full Market Breakdown

The bilateral summit between President Donald Trump and President Xi Jinping is scheduled for Thursday, September 24, 2026.

When the top leaders meet, markets shift. Policy decisions may directly impact global assets across these key sectors:

1️⃣ Semiconductor & Tech:

Eased chip export rules and clearer IP guidelines lift stocks like NVDA, AMD and INTC. Tighter controls trigger supply chain sell-offs instead.

2️⃣ Chinese Equities & ADRs:

Tariff exemptions and a stable yuan boost BABA, TCEHY and JD. Tough rhetoric raises delisting risks and drives higher volatility.

3️⃣ Agriculture & Commodities:

Large U.S. grain and energy purchases benefit producers like ADM and BG. Import restrictions redirect global trade flows.

4️⃣ Clean Energy & Automotive:

Clear EV joint venture rules support TSLA, Ford and BYD. Bans on connected vehicle technology curb growth.

🔷 3 Possible Outcomes

1️⃣ Constructive Truce (Most Likely): Tariffs paused + agricultural purchases → Broad market rally, lower volatility

2️⃣ Tech Tensions Rise: Stricter chip export bans + rare-earth controls → Tech sector pullback

3️⃣Talks Break Down: No deal + new tariff hikes → Investors shift to safe havens like gold and the U.S. dollar

💡 Key Market Effects:

• Sentiment swings between risk-on and risk-off

• U.S. dollar and yuan exchange rates shift

• Ripples across the S&P 500, Hang Seng and Nikkei 225
