Guide to setting a strong password

Creating a strong password is one of the most important steps in preventing unauthorized access to your trade account and portfolio. It helps safeguard your personal information, investments, and financial assets.

Follow these tips to set a strong password:

1. Long: At least 12 characters.
2. Complex: Include a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers and symbols.
3. Unique: Avoid using common passwords such as “123456”, “password”, or “qwerty”.
4. Difficult to guess: Avoid your name, birthdate or phone number. 
5. Use passphrases: Combine random words into a memorable phrase, such as “Long! bridge$#2025”.
6. Substitute letters with symbols or numbers: Example: O becomes 0, A becomes @ - “L0ng! bridg3$#2025”.
7. Avoid reusing passwords: Use a unique password for each account.
8. Avoid words that can be found in a dictionary: Hackers often use software to guess passwords based on the dictionary

• Good: G@l4xy$Tr0ng! 2025
• Bad: password123

Trade account password (6-digit code)

1. Use random combinations of numbers, such as “482395”.
2. Avoid using personal information such as birthdates, phone numbers
3. Choose a password that’s easy for you to remember, but difficult for others to guess

• Good: 428154 (Random combination of numbers)
• Bad: 246135 (Guessable pattern)

• Use a password manager: Consider using a trusted password manager to generate and securely store strong passwords.

You can check how strong your password is by using the Cyber Security Agency (CSA) of Singapore’s Password Checker. This tool evaluates your password’s strength and provides recommendations to make it stronger. 

4. How often should I update my password? 

Make it a habit to update your passwords every 6 months, or immediately if you suspect your account has been compromised. Cybersecurity threats evolve, and so should your passwords.
