Initial notes on $Marvell Tech(MRVL.US)'s rumoured $Lumentum(LITE.US) acquisition:

1. Why?!

- $Lumentum(LITE.US)'s CEO has said they're sold out into 2029. So do management think the InP laser shortage is shorter than what their orders suggest? Need more clarity on why Lumentum would green light this.

- With lasers sold out into 2029, I think owning the fab might be the only way $Marvell Tech(MRVL.US) can guarantee supply for FY28 growth. So maybe Marvell and Lumentum have different reads on the InP laser shortage?

2. This has to be mostly stock.

- $Marvell Tech(MRVL.US) has ~$3.9B cash vs. $5.0B debt. Combined run-rate EBITDA is circa $7-7.5B (my numbers), so I think staying investment grade caps new debt at around $15-20B.

- At a ~30% premium that leaves $85-90B+ paid in stock, with $Lumentum(LITE.US) holders owning ~30% of the combined company.

- I feel that’s a lot of Marvell to hand over.

3. I think the strategy is much better than the reaction.

- $Marvell Tech(MRVL.US) are essentially buying the part of the optical link that survives the move to CPO which is a pretty smart hedge on their own DSP franchise.

- Marvell announced Inphi around 6 years ago (~$10B in cash + stock), and that deal built the core of MRVL's optics business.

- This is basically the same move just one layer down, from DSP to laser, stacked on Celestial AI.

- Probably a good signal that Marvell are running the same optics playbook again?

4. Dilution.

- $Marvell Tech(MRVL.US) trades on about 52x run rate EPS.

- $Lumentum(LITE.US) is about 60x on its FQ1 guide at tonight's AH price and about 70x with a 30% premium.

- That's ~15% dilutive to Marvell's run-rate EPS (my rough napkin math number) assuming a 30% premium, ~$17.5B of new debt at ~5%, and the rest in stock at $228. (Again, very rough numbers).

- It only turns accretive if Lumentum keeps outgrowing Marvell at today's guided rates (+24% q/q vs +15%) for another five or six quarters.

- I think that's achievable while the laser shortage lasts, but I feel the whole deal ends up being a bet on how long that is.

5. Fewer lasers on the open market.

- If LITE's output gets prioritised for $NVIDIA(NVDA.US) and Marvell's own modules, everyone else buying LITE EMLs and CW lasers gets tighter allocation.

- I think that's bullish for laser pricing at $Coherent Corp.(COHR.US) and for other laser sources like $SIVE (lol).

- Feels like the module makers that depend on LITE lasers are the quiet losers.

6. Channel conflict.

- Marvell is the leading DSP supplier to 800G/1.6T module makers, and LITE already sells its own modules through Cloud Light.

- I think Innolight and Eoptolink start shifting DSP share to $Broadcom(AVGO.US) and $Credo Tech(CRDO.US)?

- I feel hyperscalers will push harder to second-source lasers from $Coherent Corp.(COHR.US).

Expert Takeaways: Google

Gemini 4 Argon Launch Focus: Finalized its checkpoint about 1.5 months before release, targeting Claude 3.5 Sonnet on price/performance with legal and financial as key verticals.

Severe Compute Constraints at Google: Due to heavy compute shortages, Gemini 4 Argon is globally suspended internally, free users are pushed from Flash to Light, and features like AI Mode Overview are curtailed.

Hardware Bottlenecks & Model Demand: TPU v8i delivery is delayed by roughly one quarter, and since Gemini 4 Argon is Google's first unquantized/unreduced large release, it is extremely compute-heavy.

Anthropic's TPU Share & Revenue: Anthropic holds about 3.5 million of Google's 7 million+ TPU units, and its GCP rented compute revenue outpaces running Gemini 4 Argon, prioritizing external supply.

Aggressive B-End Integration for Anthropic: Google is integrating Anthropic as a "OneP" (First Party) product inside Gemini Enterprise and Workspace with top-level menu placement equal to Gemini.

Flexible Token Credits System: C-end and B-end bundles use equivalent token credits (e.g., 1M Anthropic tokens = 2 coins, 1M Argon tokens = 1 coin) with a shared, freely allocatable quota.

Anthropic Training & Infrastructure Mix: Anthropic's mix is roughly 40% training and 60% inference, with the Fable series trained on TPU V7 and about half its product line running on TPUs.

Antigravity vs. OpenCode Performance: Antigravity suffers from bugs, privacy constraints preventing source code viewing, and lagging feature velocity; Argon plus OpenCode scores higher on Elo and benchmarks.

C-End AI Economics & Growth: C-end AI remains loss-making, with Google banning 10k–20k free-riding accounts daily; new model releases every ~2 months drive 10–20% upgrades and double token consumption.

Current Infrastructure Bottlenecks: The tightest bottlenecks are power generation equipment for data centers and inference compute (especially memory/cache for coding workloads), while training compute is less scarce due to paused projects.

$VG S&P 500(VOO.US)

The AI trade is gaining ground again, with reports of Anthropic preparing for an IPO adding to optimism and lifting the S&P 500, and of course, VOO. The listing puts the spotlight back on AI’s commercial potential, although investors still need to see whether massive spending can translate into sustainable returns. I’m continuing to build my position for the long term, while watching this week’s mega-cap earnings for confirmation that the AI rally has more room to run.

TheRaccoonAnalysis

For this week’s high-volatility earnings trades, the focus should be on liquid, options-active stocks with significant earnings catalysts, such as NVIDIA (NVDA), Microsoft (MSFT), Alphabet (GOOGL), Amazon (AMZN), or Meta (META), depending on their confirmed reporting dates. The key is not simply to select the most volatile stock, but to assess whether expectations are already priced in, how guidance may influence future growth, and whether implied volatility makes the trade expensive.

A disciplined approach would be to define the maximum loss beforehand, avoid excessive leverage, and consider waiting for the earnings reaction rather than speculating immediately before the announcement. Leveraged ETFs can be particularly unforgiving when an earnings-driven gap moves against the position.

$Broadcom(AVGO.US)

Post 5 Ep.25

Context: Broadcom has been active in Singapore’s new advanced semiconductor substrate facility. While investors often focus on custom AI accelerators and networking chips, producing these increasingly sophisticated devices requires specialised packaging materials. Broadcom is taking steps to address that bottleneck directly.

My trade: This adds an interesting dimension to my Broadcom thesis. Through its partnership with TOPPAN, the company is strengthening access to the advanced substrates required for its next-generation AI and networking products. For me, this is about more than expanding capacity. It is about reducing supply-chain vulnerabilities that could otherwise limit growth, even when customer demand remains exceptionally strong.

Takeaway: Having the best chip design means little if you cannot manufacture enough of it. In an increasingly capacity-constrained AI industry, securing the ability to deliver may become just as important as securing the customer orders themselves. Sometimes competitive advantage is built long before the finished product reaches the market.

Context

Broadcom Inc. (AVGO) has experienced a significant correction, trading at $323.24. This is roughly 35% down from its all-time high of $495. The broader semiconductor sector has entered a gruesome corrective phase due to rising anxieties over AI financing, infrastructure bottlenecks (such as land and power shortages), and the durability of massive tech capex.

My trade

Given the stock is trading deep within a firm institutional support zone between $320 and $330, my trade strategy shifts to accumulating long equity exposure at an aggressive discount.

• The Setup: Sell out-of-the-money cash-secured put options or purchase direct equity blocks at current levels ($323–$325).

• The Math: Wall Street maintains a strong consensus with an average 12-month target of $527.20. Morningstar models its fair value at $650 based on a conservative 23x multiple on its projected 2028 EPS of $30+. Trading at roughly 17.5x trailing cash flows, the current entry provides a 25%+ margin of safety relative to its intrinsic value.

Risk Management: Position sizes will be capped at 4% of the total portfolio to account for high customer concentration among Tier-1 hyperscalers (Google, Meta, Anthropic) and capital constraints on data center rollouts.

Takeaway

Broadcom is the premier AI infrastructure buy hiding in plain sight. While the market is treating AVGO like a high-risk cyclical chip asset, it is actually a highly diversified cash engine anchored by high-margin, recurring software revenues via VMware and an unbeatable, multi-generational custom silicon roadmap. The recent 35% haircut is a symptom of macro market exhaustion, not operational failure. For patient investors, this mismatch between short-term sentiment and guaranteed multi-year AI order books offers a textbook entry point.

This is the result of the post trade review of my $Broadcom(AVGO.US) trade done with the AI companion:

Entry: 368.50

Exit: 370.02

Holding Period: ~21 hours

Return: 1.52/share (+0.41%)

Overall Assessment: Good Trade (7.5/10) 🥉

👉 Your Approach (Conservative)

- Buy into earnings setup

- Sell before announcement

- Take whatever gain the market offers

- Avoid binary risk

This is essentially an earnings run-up trade.

The trade successfully generated a profit while avoiding a major binary event risk. Broadcom was scheduled to release earnings after market closed on 2 Sep 2026, and options markets were reportedly pricing a large post-earnings more of roughly +/-8%, reflecting significant uncertainty.

👍 What You Did Right

- Captured a short-term gain with limited exposure

- Avoided earnings, guidance and overnight gap risk

- Preserved capital rather than gambling on an uncertain catalyst

- Followed a professional risk-management approach by taking a confirmed profit before a high-volatility event.

🏢 Market Positions at the Time

- Institutions appeared cautiously bullish but wary of elevated AI expectations

- Retail sentiments was generally constructive towards AI semiconductor names

- Options traders were positioned for a large move but had little conviction on direction.

⭐ Bottom Line (Key Takeaway)

👏 This was a disciplined and defensible short-term trade. You captured a positive return while avoiding a highly uncertain earnings announcement. The main trade-off was opportunity cost: you secured a smaller but certain gain instead of accepting the risk of a much larger post-earnings move in either direction. From a trading and risk-management perspective, the decision was sound.

⚠️ However from a strategic perspective (position trade), if Broadcom would beat expectations and reinforce the AI growth story, then you exited before the thesis could fully play out. In that sense, the trade captured the setup but not the catalyst.

U.S. stocks were slightly lower as oil and 10yr treasury yields ticked higher. Gold, silver and bitcoin rose, and chip names were mixed. $Broadcom(AVGO.US) slipped after slight miss in revenue guidance. U.S.-Iran strikes continued with no resolution in sight. Traders priced a 62% chance of a Sept. Fed hike, although I don’t see it given slowing job growth and temporary nature of oil supply shock. S&P 500 2026 EPS estimates have continued to climb on AI and energy sector gains. S&P 500 forward earnings yield remains below 10-year treasury yield (no equity risk premium; normal +50-100 bp premium). Tesla’s Austin Cybercab event is today; I remain cautious on $Tesla(TSLA.US) shares amid negative TSLA long term earnings revisions, unsupervised autonomy being commoditized, and an extended valuation.

Context: AVGO has been quite volatile this year with a big rally followed by a sharp pullback. I took some profits during the earlier run-up.

My trade: Before last night’s earnings, I added back a small portion. The results were strong, especially the continued acceleration in AI semiconductor revenue.

Takeaway: The market’s reaction may be cautious but the underlying numbers remain impressive. I’m not trying to time the bottom. I’m happy to rebuild the position gradually while watching whether the strong AI demand can translate into sustained growth.

🚨 Broadcom (AVGO): Great Quarter But Valuation Is the Real Question!

Broadcom delivered a strong beat. US$29.59B revenue, US$3.32 non-GAAP EPS and lifted its FY26 AI revenue guidance to US$58B. 📈

But there were caveats: Q4 revenue guidance ~US$34.8B (just below US$35B consensus) and gross margin expected to dip to ~73%.

That triggered volatility in after-hours trading. ⚡

📊 Valuation vs Peers ( It Depends on the Metric) :

• Forward P/E: GAAP ~40x, non-GAAP ~31x → Nvidia ~23x, AMD ~80x

• Growth-Adjusted P/S: AVGO 24.7x → Nvidia 14.7x, AMD 31.4x, Marvell 32.0x

In short: Cheaper than AMD & Marvell but pricier than Nvidia. 📉

🔮 The Big Picture: The bull case hinges on AI revenue scaling from US$58B → US$115B → US$230B across FY26–FY28.

At current share price of US$362 , are you paying a fair price for that future growth, or is it already priced in? 🤔

A TON OF THINGS HAPPENED IN THE STOCK MARKET TODAY.

Here's a full recap:

1. Broadcom $Broadcom(AVGO.US) said it has a “high degree of confidence” it will ship $350B of AI semiconductors over the next 2 years, even if all 30 GW of demand is not deployed because of land, power, and data center constraints. The company laid out a massive AI growth path, targeting AI semiconductor revenue of roughly $58B in FY26, $115B in FY27, and $230B in FY28 — a 4x increase in just 2 years. Broadcom said every 1 GW deployed by OpenAI or Anthropic could support about $30B in annual AI revenue, while AI networking revenue is expected to grow just as fast as its XPU business. In Q3’26, Broadcom reported revenue of $29.6B, beating estimates of $29.36B and up 86% YoY, with adjusted EPS of $3.32 versus $3.24 expected. AI semiconductor revenue surged 221% YoY to $16.7B, and Broadcom expects that to accelerate to $21.7B in Q4, up 236% YoY, while also targeting $30+ EPS in FY28.

2. Meta $Meta Platforms(META.US) rolled out Muse Spark 1.3, saying the latest model delivers its biggest coding and agentic performance jump yet. Meta says Muse Spark 1.3 matches GPT-5.6 Sol on Terminal-Bench 2.1 with a score of 88.8 and reaches 75.4 on DeepSWE. The model is available now through Muse Code and the API. Zuckerberg also teased Watermelon and open weights coming next, signaling Meta is continuing to push aggressively on frontier coding agents and open AI distribution.

3. Nvidia-backed neocloud Nscale is telling prospective IPO investors it has roughly $103B in contracted revenue, up from $51B before its $45B compute deal with Anthropic, according to The Information. The contracts average 5.7 years, implying about $18B of future contracted revenue per year, though the figure is not current revenue or formal guidance and was described by one source as “illustrative.” Actual revenue is still much smaller but scaling quickly, rising from about $37M in Q1 2026 to more than $100M in Q2, excluding the Anthropic deal, as Nscale prepares for an IPO that could come as soon as this month.

4. HPE $Hewlett Packard Enterprise(HPE.US) expanded its Oracle $Oracle(ORCL.US) AI data center deal, with HPE set to deploy Juniper networking gear across Oracle AI data centers globally under a potential multi-year agreement. The deal covers routing, switching, networking support, and financing for OCI’s AI clusters, regional data centers, and edge networks, while HPE also issued Oracle warrants to purchase HPE shares. Separately, HPE reported Q3’26 revenue of $12.2B, beating estimates of $11.91B and up 34% YoY, with adjusted EPS of $1.11 versus $0.93 expected. Networking revenue surged 74.9% YoY to $2.9B, while Cloud & AI revenue rose 25.4% YoY to $9.0B. HPE guided Q4 revenue to $13.9B–$14.8B, above the $12.96B estimate, raised FY26 guidance, and said AI is becoming a multi-year growth driver as record backlog supports the outlook.

5. Cantor Fitzgerald initiated Tempus $Tempus AI(TEM.US) at Overweight with an $80 price target, arguing the company is being mispriced as a traditional life sciences data vendor rather than an AI-powered platform business. The firm says Tempus’ Data & Applications segment has a stronger growth and margin profile than the market is giving it credit for, with 26% growth and 76% gross margins. Cantor believes the segment should be compared more closely to platform peers like $Palantir Tech(PLTR.US), $Snowflake(SNOW.US), $Datadog(DDOG.US), and $Reddit(RDDT.US) rather than slower-growing data-vendor peers, creating a favorable upside risk/reward.

6. Google $Alphabet(GOOGL.US) launched Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber, a new cybersecurity-focused AI model that scored 86.2% on CyberGym and 47.2% on CWE-Bench. Google says the model has a 70%+ success rate identifying vulnerabilities across 20 programming languages and produced 2.6x more correct patches than larger models on real Chrome security bugs. Initial access is limited to government agencies and cybersecurity partners through Google’s Fairwind program.

7. The top 10 most active options today by contracts traded were $NVIDIA(NVDA.US) with 5.7M contracts, $Tesla(TSLA.US) with 2.8M contracts, $Apple(AAPL.US) with 1.7M contracts, $Meta Platforms(META.US) with 1.0M contracts, $Micron Tech(MU.US) with 959K contracts, $Amazon(AMZN.US) with 732K contracts, $Palantir Tech(PLTR.US) with 675K contracts, $Dell Tech(DELL.US) with 633K contracts, $Intel(INTC.US) with 557K contracts, and $Alphabet(GOOGL.US) with 536K contracts.

8. JPMorgan says a 5% 10-year Treasury yield could be the level that starts to pressure stocks, with Grace Peters noting that “5% psychologically has an impact” and could trigger a knee-jerk equity selloff. She sees a potential 5%-8% correction into the midterms, but views that as a healthy pullback rather than a structural break. JPMorgan remains constructive on stocks longer term, with its thesis centered on a capex-driven earnings supercycle, while the key medium-term test for AI will be whether the spending translates into real returns.

9. Berenberg initiated Rocket Lab $Rocket Lab(RKLB.US) at Buy with an $83 price target, implying about 29%-35% upside, calling it the only end-to-end public pure-play in space across launch, satellites, components, and spectrum. The firm says Rocket Lab has an effective monopoly in dedicated small-lift launch, is entering medium-lift with Neutron, and is benefiting from rapid growth in satellite manufacturing and components as space budgets hit records. Berenberg also said the Iridium acquisition adds scarce global spectrum and recurring applications revenue, while Rocket Lab’s vertical integration gives it long-term optionality not fully reflected in the stock’s valuation. While acknowledging execution risk and a high multiple, the firm called Rocket Lab one of the most compelling long-term assets in the space sector and said it would buy or add on volatility.

10. The 60+ day delinquency rate on U.S. subprime auto loans has climbed to roughly 5.2%, the highest level on record and more than double where it was four years ago. Serious subprime auto delinquencies are now about 1.7 percentage points above their 2008 financial crisis peak, while prime auto loan delinquencies have also risen to around 0.4%, near the highest level since 2011. At the same time, total U.S. auto debt increased by $28B in Q2 2026 to a record $1.71T.

11. Onchain tokenized equity holders have reached a record 1.9M, up 134% month-over-month and 1,360% year-to-date. Just 10 months ago, fewer than 100,000 people held tokenized assets, but demand for 24/7 markets and access to names tied to the record IPO wave, including SpaceX, OpenAI, and Anthropic, has accelerated adoption. Jupiter, the largest onchain trading platform on Solana, has driven much of the growth, with 61% of volume now happening during off-hours and active tokenized equity traders up 46% month-over-month.

12. Microsoft $Microsoft(MSFT.US) will begin disclosing Azure revenue as part of a major FY27 reporting overhaul, shifting from three business segments to two: Agents & Infrastructure and Devices & Consumer. For Q1 FY27, Microsoft expects Azure growth of 44%-45% in constant currency, Agents & Infrastructure revenue of $75.15B-$75.75B, Devices & Consumer revenue of $14.7B-$15.2B, Microsoft 365 Commercial Cloud growth of about 17% in constant currency, and Search & Ads ex-TAC growth in the mid-to-high single digits. The new structure marks Microsoft’s biggest reporting change since adopting its prior three-segment model in FY2016.

My call: −3% to +3%.

I’m bullish on Broadcom’s long-term AI opportunity, especially custom ASICs, networking and its growing exposure to hyperscalers. However, I think a lot of the good news is already priced in after Nvidia’s strong earnings. With AVGO still well below its June high, the market will likely focus heavily on forward guidance rather than just the headline numbers.

Even if Broadcom beats expectations and raises its outlook, I’m not expecting another Nvidia-style breakout immediately. The ~8% implied move shows elevated expectations, while investors may also use a strong report to take some profits. For Thursday, I’m therefore expecting a relatively volatile session but ultimately a −3% to +3% close as the market digests the results and guidance.
