What are US fractional shares

What are US fractional shares?

U.S. fractional share trading allows investors to purchase a portion of a whole share. Fractional share trading can lower transaction costs, as investors can buy the exact dollar amount they want without having to purchase whole shares. This provides greater flexibility in managing portfolios and reduces the cost of entering the market.

Which stocks are eligible for fractional share trading?

You can find stocks that support fractional share trading under “Market” -> “Classify.”

These stocks can also be identified by the fractional trading icon on the top right of individual stock pages.

Corporate actions for fractional shares

Fractional shares are eligible for mandatory corporate actions, including dividend distributions and stock splits. However, voluntary corporate actions, such as rights offerings or tender offers, are generally not available for fractional shares.

The trading process remains unchanged.

For stock splits or reverse stock splits, clients may receive fractional shares. For example, if a stock undergoes a 10-for-1 reverse split and an investor holds 5 shares, they would receive 0.5 shares post-split.
