What is fractional share trading?

Fractional share trading allows you to buy or sell less than one whole share of a stock or ETF. Instead of transacting a full share, you can trade the exact dollar amount or share quantity you choose. This makes it easier to:

  • Start investing with a smaller amount of money

  • Diversify across more companies

  • Align your investments with your budget or strategy

Which stocks will be eligible for fractional share trading?

Fractional share trading will be offered on selected US-listed stocks and ETFs. Eligible securities will be clearly marked in the trading platform so you can easily identify them.

How will I trade fractional shares?

You can place fractional share orders — both buys and sells — in two ways:

  1. By share quantity – enter the fraction of a share you want to buy or sell (e.g., 0.25 shares). When selling, you may sell your full fractional position or any portion of it.

  2. By dollar amount – enter the amount you want to invest or receive from a sale, and the system will calculate the equivalent share quantity based on the current market price. Minimum amount is $5.00 for both buys and sells.

How will corporate actions work with fractional shares?

  • Included: Fractional shares will participate in mandatory corporate actions, such as dividends and stock splits.

  • Not included: Fractional shares generally will not be eligible for voluntary corporate actions, such as rights offerings or tender offers.

Trading Hours for Fractional Shares

  • Fractional share trading will only be available during regular market hours: 9:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (ET)

  • On half-day sessions (such as before certain holidays), trading hours will be 9:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. (ET)

Order Types Supported

  • Market orders and limit orders will be supported.

  • Conditional orders (such as stop or trailing orders) and advanced order types will not be supported for fractional shares.

Margin and Short Selling

  • Fractional shares cannot be sold short.

  • They will be supported in margin accounts for buying purposes, with the same margin interest rate that applies to whole shares.

Order Modifications

  • Fractional share orders cannot be modified after submission.

  • If you need to make changes, you’ll need to cancel the order and submit a new one.

Minimum Order Requirement

  • Minimum share quantity: 0.0001 shares

  • Minimum order value: $5 per trade

Account Transfers

  • Fractional share positions cannot be transferred to another brokerage via ACATS (Automated Customer Account Transfer Service).

  • To avoid unexpected liquidation, consider selling fractional positions manually before initiating a transfer.
