Federal law requires us to verify the identity of everyone who opens an account. A quick selfie lets us compare your face to the photo on your government-issued ID, confirming that the person applying is a real, live person and is the person on the ID. This step helps prevent someone from opening an account in your name with stolen information, and it helps keep your account and our platform secure. It only takes a few seconds, and your selfie is used only for identity verification and account security. Our identity verification provider may process your selfie on our behalf, as described in our Privacy Policy and Biometric Authentication Agreement.

Why might my selfie check fail?

Poor image quality, an obstructed face, or an inability to confirm that the video shows a live person can cause a check to fail—even if the selfie matches your ID photo.
